What is PETG?

PETG, which stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol is a clear/opal thermoplastic that is made from thermoplastic polymers. PETG material can become mouldable when heated, and solidifies once cooling – making it excellent for moulding into different projects and shapes.

PETG plastic properties

PETG plastic has many different properties which make the thermoplastic ideal for use in a wide scope of applications. Its exceptional clarity and formability allow the material to be moulded and shaped into many different project components easily, with little labour involved. In addition to this, the thermoplastic can be vacuum-formed, printed, bonded and polished and therefore works great for promotional purposes. PETG properties also including being sterile, strong and having a high impact resistance.

The applications for PETG

Due to the thermoplastic’s excellent formability and mouldable properties, PETG offers diverse uses. As it can be easily printed and finished, the plastic makes a great material for Point of Sale displays and other marketing purposes such as signage. Its clarity means that it is extensively used for protective covers, machinery guards and other applications which also need impact resistance. Being sterile allows the material to be used in packaging for food and chemical industries too.
