HIPS / ABS Foiling

HIPS / ABS Foiling Overview

Foiling is the process by which laminate film is applied to surface materials.

Often wood finishes or a variety of colours are used in order to heighten a product’s appeal and add value. Foiled products are found within the home such as kitchen doors, and furniture, cupboards, worktops as well as being used to create display signs in commercial applications.

If you take a close look at a car dashboard, chances are it is foiled, rather than what’s at first glance might be considered natural wood.

Uses and Limitations

Foiling can help improve the visual appearance of a product as well as increase its scratch resistance. Foiling can be used to imitate another material such as brushed aluminium, woven carbon or chrome mirror whilst retaining the additional properties of the thermoplastic such as lightness of weight, and durability.
